I love Berlin Currywurst because it is a treat for the soul and the belly. Located right across the way from Egg Slut, this German traditional sausage place makes some mean dogs! I really prefer their food to for breakfast and lunch, and I especially love their German fries.
I have tried about a million combinations of sausages, sides, and beers but I wanted to highlight my favorites. The menu is simple, easy to navigate, and most importantly, the food usually comes out relatively fast and tastes like a million bucks.
They offer 3 distinct "signature" breakfast dishes which include, potatoes, eggs, and a sausage of your choice. My favorite would have to be the Bauernpfanne or sausage hash. This tasty sucker packs all of breakfast essentials in one tasty German sandwich.
For the classic, I prefer the brat sausage in a bun, If you want something a little more authentic, you can go with the currywurst (sausage is cut up with slices of bread and sauce on the side). The bun is incredibly fresh and the dogs are good sized and packed with veggies and seasonings. A well rounded and respectable dog!
While I have you, please get the German fries. Not sure what kind of secret recipe is used here, but the potatoes are fresh, the fries are thick cut and seasoned well. I get it every time!
If you are of age, the sausages can be perfectly paired with a variety of German drafts and bottled beer.
The vibe is hard to beat! Of course it gets loud, given that Currywurst is located smack in the middle of Downtown LA best food treasure, The Grand Central Market. You can grab a curry dog with a refreshing brew and take a seat at the bar next to Currywurst, or venture off to one of the tables in the food court. My recommendation? Come before 11 AM on the weekend, or try a weekday during off hours (after 3 PM). You can beat some of the crowds and enjoy some tasty eats!

Tasty kielbasa vegan sausages in a bun with onions and sauerkraut. I enjoy the pretzels too. It would be nice if they had more locations. My only problem with them is that they are inconsistent with their hours and very eager to leave. They're listed as being open until 9 but the staff often decides to close shop at 8 and even if you get there at 7:55 on a day they decide to close early, they won't serve you. That's not a good business model. I hope this doesn't hurt their business because I enjoy their food but they aren't the most welcoming.
An update: I recently ate here and they were out of bread. This is totally understandable, but normally when an establishment can't provide part of the service you are paying for, they'll at least offer something complimentary. They didn't even ask if I would like a pretzel or beer free of charge since I was paying the same price for no bun. I realize they aren't obligated to do this but it's a nice gesture that places your establishment in good standing with customers. -

German food vendor in grand market where food tasted awesome. It's next to eggslut where very few customers go to , although ironically eggslut lengthy queue go infront of this german stall.
But trust me their food is awesome. We tried sausage hash and i was eating like anything. We tried chicken sausage but they will give you options for all meat selections. -

Tasty stuff and loved the fries. Easy to get a seat and the music is good. Very traditional preparation of the currywurst but the portion is on the small side for the price point. In general, I found this way too expensive. $17 for a small currywurst, a side of fries and a bottle of water!!! A bit crazy if you ask me. Especially compared to the prices of the real stuff in Berlin.

Had the currywurst brat which was a sausage sliced and drenched in sauce served with a piece of bread and sauerkraut salad.
The sausage and sauce were really good..kinda reminded me of those little wieners in the Crock-Pot thing...but, better.
Bread was fresh and soft and helped with the sausage.
The sauerkraut salad missed the mark for me. The citrus added to the salad did not taste right.
A tasty, but not filling meal.
Note: This was part of my MealPal experience. Check out my Mealpal DTLA collection of you want to follow along. If you are scratching your head about MealPal...google it. The meal was not quite ready for pick-up.
